Chillin' with my Peeps

So I spent an awesome couple of days with my old college roomies! We had the best time! We left our kids behind and met up in Dallas where we ate way too much, indulged in pedicures, laid around by the pool at our hotel, shopped, and laughed a ton. It was so great catching up. I miss my girls! Here are some pictures:

After I got back home to my hubby and my boy I found that they in fact did not kill each other but had really great time. It was good for them to have some father-son bonding time. We spend today, Memorial Day, laying around the house in the morning and then going to the city water park in the afternoon. After that we went to a cook out to hang with friends and play some volleyball. Here are some pics from the water park:

Foxy

The Fox Next Door
So a couple of days ago Preston called me to come look at something in the back yard where he was. Over in our neighbor's back yard we saw this cute little fox! He was eating the food that had fallen from their bird feeder. He hung around long enough for me to go back in and get my camera. It was really cool but then I started thinking...I wonder if he would eat a little white 7 pound Maltese (our dog) if given the chance...hmmmm. That's a little scary.

Chase's New Eating Habits
So Chase crawled into the kitchen a few days ago while Preston and I were talking in the hall. He was barely in there any time when I went in to get him and noticed something unusual in his hands. He was holding a little zip-loc baggie that contained a bunch of very small screws. I saw that he put one in his mouth so I ran over to retrieve it. Not only did I dig that one out of his mouth but also 4 more! Wow! I'm still not sure if he swallowed one or not but I'm pretty sure it would have "surfaced" by now if he had. Lesson learned...Leave NOTHING within reach, even if it's up out of site on the table. Also a little scary.

Tightwad Update
Target (MP) Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal = good
Target (MP) baked beans = OK
Wal-Mart Apple sauce = good (exactly the same)
Target (MP) Peanut butter = good

SureFine brand Cereal Bars (bought them at the local grocery) = Yuck! (again, very scary)

So that last post...

Wow! My last post created a lot of response! From comments added, to emails sent directly to me, and even a few phone calls.

First the Picture: There were a few people who thought the picture below was a joke at first glance! Was it Chase in a dress? Nope, it was me when I was one year old!

Next the Tanning: I was given several left-over bottles of sunless tanners and was given lots of advice. Thanks people. I'll let you know what I think.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of Chase today on his ten month birthday. I put the hat on him and he just left it on for a while. I think he just forgot about it!

He doesn't JUST look like Preston!

Everyone is always telling me how much Chase looks like Preston. Well check out this photo that my mom and I found. It is me at one year. I think it looks a lot like Chase...the facial expression too!

Advice anyone?: So I'm not really in on the sun these days. I do lots of things to be healthy so why shouldn't I keep my skin healthy too? Problem is, I like having a tan. Everyone else has a tan in the summer. I bought some Jergens sunless tan daily lotion and I've been using it for like 2 weeks and I can't tell that I have a tan at all! I originally bought the medium skin tone one but eventually went to the store and bought the dark skin tone one. So Jergens has 2 bottles worth of my money and I have nothing to show for it. Has anyone tried any sunless stuff that works?

Another question: Who all is planning to see the DaVinci Code? I am! Preston and I are totally into the book right now. It's been really interesting to see all the churches in the area that are having sermons and even sermon series on the movie. It's a good book and it's fiction...that's all it is to me.

Random Stuff

I haven't posted a picture of Lucy lately so here's one of her today. :)

Interesting Times at the Coffee Shop:So I go to a local coffee shop on Thursdays sometimes to work. Apparently there is a "Red Hat Cub" meeting there at that time. You know...the little old ladies that wear purple and red. It's so funny. They all always have a red hat that they have decorated. This last time I even noticed a lady who actually had a red base ball cap that she had stuck some sequins and purple feathers on. haha. I'm totally going to be one of them some day. Here's their website...I was curios: http://www.redhatsociety.com.

Chase Update:
Man Chase is all over the place. I just remembered a whole box of blocks that someone gave us when he was born. We got them down today and he's been having a big time playing. Just in the last several weeks he's gotten taller. The weather turned colder again so I put some of his pants on him for the last few days. They're all high-waters for sure.

Alias:
I've decided to watch Alias for the rest of the season. It's time for them to put it out of it's misery...it hasn't been that great this season but I just HAVE to know how it ends.

Tightwad update:
I haven't had one of these in a while so here goes:
Wal-Mart's version of Pantein is good
I bought Target brand butter and it is also good
I've been buying store brand canned stuff especially for recipes and it has all been fine
Target now has liquid coffee creamer but I haven't tried it yet

I Love Traveling...LOVE it!

At this very moment it is Sunday, April 30, 2006 at about 11:30 in the morning, (Although I probably won't post this until tomorrow or the next day) and I am on an airplane from Phoenix to Dallas (I started my day in LA). Yes, Yes, I know I should be at church but alas here I am. Though I don't love airplanes or airports (as much as Preston anyway), I do love the fun and anticipation that comes along with traveling and the sheer joy I feel knowing that I'm "really going somewhere." Obviously Chase isn't with me or I wouldn't have the free hands to be typing this. The laptop would probably actually be playing Baby Einstein if he were. I'm not as excited right now as I was 4 days ago when I was flying toward the West Coast but I am still happy to be going to see my little boy who I haven't seen since Wednesday. Preston had a training class for work in LA on Thursday and Friday so he left on Wednesday to go there and I left that same day to take Chase to my parent's house near Dallas. I flew out on Thursday to meet my hubby so we could have a long weekend getaway to celebrate our 4-year anniversary. FOUR YEARS! Wow! Are you kidding me? It has seriously flown by...and it's been great! We had a great time. It was so nice to have a baby-free weekend where we could just pay attention to each other and go do fun things that we don't usually get to do...like walk on the beach! The weather was a little chilly so there wasn't any lying out in the sand but we did get to go for a long walk and enjoy the beachy atmosphere. We went to Santa Monica to hang out and people watch. (Honey I don't think we're in Oklahoma anymore!) We also spent some time at Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, at the Getty's Center Museum (very cool by the way), in Hollywood, and driving around looking at big houses in the hills. We also got to have dinner with my friend Stacy that lives there and that was really fun. We ate sushi with her and then walked along Manhattan Beach gawking at all the beach front houses being jealous and wondering what all those people do for a living to afford houses like that. Preston and I even went to a movie which we don't get to do that much anymore so that was really fun. I'll tell you about the movie we saw at the end of this post if you're interested. It was Friends with Money with Jennifer Aniston. The more I think about it, the more I liked it. Anyway, it was such a great trip. I thought about Chase often and found myself wondering what he was doing with his Grammy, Granddaddy, and two aunts every now and then but I never worried even once. I only called 3 times in the time I was gone...pretty good huh? I think every mom needs a time away like this...whether you go to LA or somewhere close. It was so good for Preston and my relationship too. Though the time I spent with Preston was by far the most fun, I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the time he was at his classes too because I got to have some me-time. I spent most of those times at the hotel taking naps, reading (I actually finished my book!), working out at the gym, having a long breakfast and coffee in the lobby, and even doing a little work on my laptop. I also did some shopping at a mall though I didn't buy anything. I was saving my money until we found out where an H&M was but come to find out there is not one in LA. Kind of weird I thought. I was hoping to make Courtney jealous! Anyway, I came to a conclusion while I was at the mall...it doesn't matter where you live, if you're a mom that doesn't work during the day, you take your kids and your strollers to the mall. So even if I moved somewhere crazy like LA...I would still be doing the same things day to day. (Right Jen, Mel, Lori, etc.?) But all good things come to an end and here I am flying home...well, to my parent's home. Preston is probably on his way to OKC by now. That punk...he booked me a 6:00 a.m. flight while he got an 11:00 a.m. flight! Now I'm all refreshed and ready to go be mom again...actually I'm kind of excited about it.

The movie: Friends with Money. While I would never actually recommend it to anyone because of a few crude scenes and some harsh language (there, I covered myself) I did think it was a good movie. It's one of those that you're not sure if you really liked it or not when it's over...(I heard someone in the bathroom afterward say that they hated it) and I actually thought when the credits started rolling, "What? It's over? What was the story line? Was there really any plot?" To be honest, I still don't know the answers to those questions but here's what I came away with and the reason I liked it: 1) Money does not make you happy. 2) (This one is my favorite) The people who were the most happy and had the best marriage were the ones who thought about themselves the least and gave away the most money to worthy causes. Everyone in the movie except this couple was always focused on themselves and their own happiness...but these two wanted their friends and each other to be happy. Pretty good life lesson...don't you think?
